  • Parsons & Whittemore (P&W) is the parent organization of Alabama River Pulp Company. P&W is based in Rye Brook, NY. The first pulping line built at Claiborne, Alabama  River Pulp, produced its first unbleached pulp in November 1978.  The first bleached kraft market pulp was produced a few months later – in March 1979. Later a second production line was added and began producing softwood pulp in December 1991.
         
  • In March 2006 Alabama River Pulp produced its 10 millionth ton of pulp.

  • We employ 550 people with an annual payroll of $53 million.
     
  • Our two production lines produce mixed southern hardwood bleached kraft pulp and southern pine bleached kraft pulp, and give us the flexibility to respond to changing markets.
     
  • Alabama River Pulp is one of the most productive and low cost mills in North America. Both production lines have a combined capacity of over 2,600 tons per day with total annual tonnage of over 925,000 tons.
     
  • We are a global business serving customers in some 20 countries with sales heavily focused in Asia and Europe.
            
  • Among the finished products made from Alabama River pulps are fine writing papers, paper towels, copy paper, tissues, coffee filters, automotive filters, and a variety of other products.
                   
  • Our Company Mission, Vision and Values guide and support our  focus on safety, environmental responsibility and quality. Our employees hold the U.S. pulp mill record of 2.5 million hours for hours worked without a lost time injury. 
     
  • Alabama River Pulp is registered under the ISO-9002 international quality standards.  Our wood procurement division recently implemented an Environmental Management System based on ISO –14001 and is also certified to the newest Chain of Custody standards of the American Forest & Paper Association’s Sustainable Forestry Initiatives (SFI®) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC). ARP is the recipient of two U.S. Senate Productivity Awards and a National Environmental and Energy Achievement Award.  In recent years, our company has received state and national recognition by the Pulp and Paper Safety Association as well as the Business Council of Alabama for safe hours worked and our company-wide safety program.
